In my Stress-Free Content Creation Masterclass, I brought up the fact that marketing is a spiritual practice.
I know I know, it probably sounds a little crazy… But when you really start to dig in to the promotional side of things as a wellness entrepreneur, it TOTALLY makes sense.
Don’t believe me? Check this out…
1. Deep soul work & self-discovery
Most of us start out as a solopreneur and simply can’t afford a marketing team. Therefore, it’s our responsibility to build and promote our personal brands.
Branding yourself requires you to dig deep into the CORE of your being. You have to uncover your biggest strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislikes, dreams, habits, etc. so you can clearly understand your unique value in the market.
During this process, it’s likely you’ll discover some pretty shocking things about yourself… Bad habits, negative patterns, and insecurities you never even knew you had come bubbling to the surface and force you to acknowledge them. On the other hand, you also become more aware of your strengths and have the opportunity to really hone in on your zone of genius.
I’ll always say that entrepreneurship is the quickest route to self-discovery…
2. Pushing past your comfort zone
I think we can all agree that business ownership is not for the faint-hearted. Not only are there major financial risks involved, but these days wellness coaches and spiritual entrepreneurs only make it to the top if they remain visible and vulnerable through their marketing.
Long gone are the days where you could hide behind a logo and simply write some decent content. Now, it’s all about human connection and real-time communication between you and your audience. This can be REALLY nerve-wracking for a lot of people.
While personal branding initiates self-discovery, marketing is all about self-development and deep soul-work. You can’t just create a personal brand and hope coaching clients throw money at you, just like you can’t expect to uncover past trauma and ignore it.
Let’s say you’ve moved past the personal branding phase and it’s time to promote your wellness coaching services. Maybe you’re unaware of your public speaking phobia until you actually press “Start” on Facebook Live. Next thing you know, you’re uncovering childhood trauma from your 3rd-grade spelling bee.
Marketing allows you to heal by bringing these things to the surface. It pushes you out of your comfort zone and into higher consciousness. Market research is really just a fancy word for raising awareness. Of yourself and of the outside world.
3. Growing Compassion for others
What’s the most important part of a content marketing strategy for wellness coaches?
Before you even begin marketing your wellness or spiritual business, you have to know more about your ideal coaching client than their own mother does. Understanding their hopes, dreams, fears, goals, and mindset is the only way you’ll be able to speak their language.
When you dive deep into customer behavior analysis and uncover the thoughts and emotions of your ideal client, you really start to strengthen your empathy muscle. You become a “social listener,” giving your full attention to the challenges of your audience in hopes of providing an effective solution (your coaching). This insight humanizes your marketing process and opens the door to much more meaningful relationships– in your business and in your daily life.
Plus, the more vulnerable you are in your marketing– whether it’s on Facebook Live or in-person– the safer you and your audience feel. Because let’s face it, holistic, spiritual marketing– at it’s core– is all about making your customer feel safe enough to let you in.
4. Opening your creative channels
Contrary to popular belief, content marketing isn’t all about tricks, funnels, hacks, or ads. Sure, there are some tech skills that come in handy sometimes… But you can’t expect to become a spiritual thought leader or world-renowned healer simply because you used the latest marketing software or hired an amazing sales funnel expert.
Marketing forces you to think outside the box and try new things. The greatest changemakers on the planet because they were DIFFERENT. They were explorers. Courageous storytellers. CREATIVES.
Maybe you don’t have a groundbreaking idea or invention. Maybe your wellness coaching techniques are just like every other wellness coach out there. What you do have is a unique story that’s unlike anyone else’s on this planet. When you infuse your content with your unique personality and narrative, you attract the soul-aligned customers into your life.
Plus, what’s more therapeutic and spiritual than creativity?? And that’s basically what blogging and creating content is… creative journaling.
5. God’s Messenger
If you’re an energy healer, lightworker, yoga instructor, or just a spirit-led entrepreneur, this especially applies to you…
With everything going on in the world, people want what you have. They want that higher purpose. Faith. Someone or Something to look to for answers. Luckily, they have you to bridge the gap between seeing and believing. That’s where your spiritual content marketing comes in.
You can’t expect your audience to dive head first into your spiritual techniques and healing practices. No, it’s up to YOU to give them a taste of what’s possible when they have the presence of God by their side. Only then will they understand the benefits of your offerings.
TIP: Think of your blog or Instagram feed as a direct connection between God and your audience. Before you even think about posting, ask yourself these questions:
- What does Spirit want my audience to know today?
- How can you relay the message?
6. Making peace with failure
As a solopreneur, you’re going to fail. Over and over and over again. That’s just the way it works. Shit, that’s how LIFE works. But as I said before, you’re taking A LOT of risks when you decide to go out on your own and create an online spiritual business. Not only do you have to develop a thick skin, but you also have to develop a deep appreciation for failure.
At some point in your entrepreneurial journey, you begin to make peace with the challenges before you. Some of you might not be at the point yet, but you will be, I promise.
You see, marketing is all about testing. Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don’t… But the more A/B tests you run– like switching up your sales page copy or re-rerouting your content strategy altogether– the more data and insight you have into your audience. The more data you have to work with, the closer you are to hitting that sweet spot where the real magic happens.
How to embody spiritual marketing
The key to a successful spiritual marketing practice is CONSCIOUSNESS. Don’t limit yourself regarding where and from whom good can come to you. Constantly affirm that all channels for success are open and flowing to you from God’s eternal resource of power.
Listen to your ideal client’s words with one part of your mind, and sense their underlying desires and feelings with the intuitive part of your mind.
Tune in to what they’re saying on a soul-level. The only way you can do this is to approach your market research and client interactions in a calm, relaxed, almost meditative state. That way, you aren’t focused on YOU, and you’re able to fully connect with their subconscious.
